The following page gives Engineers an insight into the latest tools and capabilities offered by AIM GmbH, for test, simulation, analysis and emulation of avionics data buses. AIM products are utilised in ground based test equipment and ATE rigs around the world. As such AIM is considered the leader in the 1553 technology market and especially in the new Avionics Ethernet and Fibre channel topologies for aircraft systems.

As of August 2011 there is no longer need for an Export License to ship our MIL-STD-1553A/B products for Test and Simulation Applications from Germany. There is still, however, the need for an export licence for embedded applications with military temperature range, radiation hardening, etc.

   AIM MIL-STD 1553 - Test and Simulation Modules:
AIM AMC-1553-x:
The AMC1553 family of PCI Mezzanine (PMC) modules provide full function test, simulation, monitoring and Databus analyser functions for MIL-STD-1553A/B applications. One, two or four independent dual redundant MIL-STD-1553A/B Databus streams are provided on the multi-channel AMC1553-x modules. An onboard, sinusoidal, IRIG-B time code encoder/decoder allows users to accurately synchronize multiple modules to a common time source. The AMC1553-x modules use two high performance RISC processors, each of them supporting one dual-channel Bus Interface Unit (BIU 2 ), each implementing two independent MIL-STD-1553A/B Channels.

The AP104-1553-x is a member of AIM’s new family of advanced PC/104-Plus bus modules targeted to embedded MIL-STD-1553A/B applications. The AP104-1553-x Full Function version concurrently act as the bus controller, multiple remote terminals (31) and chronological/mailbox bus monitor. Versions with reduced set of functionality (Single Function or Simulator Only) are available as well as extended temperature range variants. The AIM MILScope™ provides the unique capability to test & verify MIL-STD-1553 waveforms and detect faulty bus conditions without the need of an external Oscilloscope. The MILScope™capability is integrated into the design of the new PCI/ PCI-X based APX1553-1-DS/-2- DS test & simulation modules on one MIL-STD-1553 channel. Each has a two channel differential analogue to digital converter (ADC) providing 50Msamples for primary & secondary bus data acquisition or 100Msamples for either the primary or the secondary bus This capability is provided above and beyond that of the standard functions & features of the APX1553 cards (bus controller, multiple remote terminal, chronological monitor, physical bus reply - see APX1553 datasheet for full technical specifications). This enhanced capability provides users with accurate measurements of physical bus parameters such as rise and fall time, overshoot, undershoot, pulse width and signal amplitude.

AIM FOL1553-P:
FOL1553-P is a portable, fibre optic link extension system designed for MIL-STD-1553 bus stubs. Comprising of a two part system, it has been designed for applications where the distance from a UUT (Unit Under Test) has to be extended for EMC testing or remote monitoring. Two types of FOL-P's are available. The SIMULTOR system extends the bus stub up to 100 metres and the MONITOR system up to 500 metres.

AIM AMC825-4:
The AMC825-4 PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) can work either with full functionality as an active CAN node for testing and simulating or in ‘listening only’ mode for monitoring and recording purposes of Avionic CAN bus (ARINC825) applications on up to four electrically isolated CAN bus nodes concurrently. All nodes are in conformance with the ISO11898-1/-2 standard. They are accessible by software separately and can be used as four independent CAN bus nodes. An onboard IRIG-B time decoder allows users to accurately synchronise single or multiple modules to a common time source.

AIM AVC825:
The AVC-2 is a single slot, double height (6U) VME64x, extended VMEbus module with two separate PMC slots. The AVC-2 uses an on board, industry standard, Tundra chip (Universe II) providing the bridge between the VMEbus and PCIbus. The AVC-2 fulfils the requirements of the VME64x extension plus the Interface for rear I/O. Each PMC-slot is in conformance with the draft standard physical and environmental layers for PCI Mezzanine Cards (P1386.1/Draft 2.4).

AIM AMC429:
The AMC429 family of PCI Mezzanine (PMC) modules offer full function test, simulation, monitoring and databus analyser capabilities for ARINC429 applications on up to 32 channels concurrently. Conduction Cooled (CC) Modules are also available for the AMC429 family. The AMC429 CC modules meet the ANSI/VITA 20-2001(R2005) standard.

AIM AP104-429-x:
The AP104-429-x is a member of AIM’s new family of advanced PC/104-Plus modules targeted to embedded ARINC429 applications. Nginuity AP9113 Arinc-429 to USB Converter:
The AP9113 ARINC-429 TO USB / NMEA Converter Module, is a 28VDC powered ruggedised protocol converter module, comprising of 2 ARINC-429 input channels, 2 USB output channels and a discrete status output. The AP9113 can acquire flight data parameters from up to 2 ARINC-429 sources, process and re-format the data and upload to the USB interface for use with navigational chart plotting software (NMEA). In addition to the NMEA data stream, a secondary binary data stream is available to 3rd party software applications for bespoke display and data logging applications.

The AP9120 ARINC-429 <-> MIL-STD-1553B Converter, is a +28V DC powered bi-directional protocol converter module. The AP9120 provides 4 channels of ARINC-429 TX, 4 channels of ARINC-429 RX, a MIL-STD-1553B dual redundant terminal (BC/RT/BM modes), 3 discrete inputs, 3 discrete outputs, 6 RT address select inputs and a discrete status output. The AP9120 is a generic protocol converter providing uni-directional or bi-directional data conversion between the MIL-STD-1553B military data bus and ARINC-429 commercial data bus for a variety of applications.

Nginuity IP5010 ARINC to NMEA Converter Module:
The IP5010 ARINC-429 TO NMEA Converter Module, is a 28VDC powered ruggedised protocol converter module, comprising of 1 ARINC-429 input channel and 1 RS-232 output channel. The IP5010 can acquire data parameters from a single ARINC-429 source, process and re-format the data and output on an RS-232 interface for use with navigational chart plotting software (NMEA). The IP5010 ARINC-429 input channel can be configured for High speed (100KHz) or Low speed (12.5KHz) operation, and the resulting NMEA output baud rate can be configured for either 4800, 9600 or 19200 operation.

AIM’s PBA.pro-SCR-PTP-P dedicated scripting package is designed to run the MIL-STD-1553 ‘Protocol Tests’ in accordance with the ‘SAE AS4112’ Remote Terminal Production Test Plan. This package requires the use of AIM’s MIL-STD-1553 test& simulation cards and the PBA.pro™ Databus Analyser & Analysis Software. The PBA.pro-SCR-PTP-P comprises a set of test scripts and user panels, which fully automate the ‘Protocol Test’ requirements. The dedicated test panel has been created using the PBA.pro designer component and the scripts executed and managed by the PBA.pro test & script manager component.
